Smart IPTV Setup on Samsung & LG TVs: Step by Step

Install IBO Player or Smart IPTV on Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) TVs, add your playlist and get the TV guide working in under ten minutes.

Smart IPTV simply means watching IPTV through an app installed directly on your television, with no Firestick or extra box required. Samsung TVs (running Tizen) and LG TVs (running webOS) both support IPTV player apps, and setup takes around ten minutes.

Before you start

  • Your login details: the username, password and server URL (or M3U link) we send to your WhatsApp.
  • Your TV connected to the internet: ideally with an Ethernet cable for the most stable picture.
  • A phone or computer: most Smart TV apps ask you to add your playlist on their website.
Good to know: Smart TV IPTV apps are made by independent developers. Most offer a free trial and then charge their own small activation fee (yearly or one-off), which is paid to the app developer, separate from your IPTV subscription.

Which app should you use?

We recommend IBO Player for both Samsung and LG. It has a clean layout, handles the TV guide well and supports both Xtream and M3U playlists. Smart IPTV is another long-standing option, particularly on LG TVs, though availability in the Samsung store varies by model and region. For a deeper comparison, see TiviMate vs IPTV Smarters vs IBO Player.

How to set up IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV

  1. Press the Home button on your remote and open Apps.
  2. Select the search icon, type IBO Player and choose the app.
  3. Select Install, then Open.
  4. The app's start screen shows your MAC address and device key. Write them down or take a photo.
  5. Follow the steps in Adding your playlist below, then restart the app.

How to set up IPTV on an LG Smart TV

  1. Press the Home button and open the LG Content Store (called Apps on newer models).
  2. Search for IBO Player and select Install.
  3. Open the app and note the MAC address and device key on the start screen.
  4. Add your playlist as shown below, then restart the app.

Adding your playlist

Smart TV apps don't let you type long logins with the remote. Instead, you add your playlist on the app developer's website:

  1. On your phone or computer, visit the app developer's official website (shown on the app's start screen) and open the playlist or "manage device" page.
  2. Enter the MAC address and device key exactly as shown on your TV.
  3. Add a playlist using either the Xtream details (server URL, username, password) or the M3U link we sent you. Give it a name such as "IPTV Éire".
  4. Save, then fully close and reopen the app on your TV. Select your playlist and your channels will load.
Tip: if you're not sure which details to use, message us on WhatsApp with a photo of the app's start screen and we'll add the playlist for you.

Getting the TV guide working

The TV guide usually appears within a few minutes of the first load. If it stays blank, open the app's settings and choose Refresh or Reload EPG, then restart the app. Make sure your TV's date, time and time zone are set correctly (Settings › General › Time), as a wrong clock is a common cause of an empty guide.

Troubleshooting

"Playlist not found" or the playlist won't load

Check the MAC address and device key on the website match your TV exactly, then restart the app. Re-enter the server URL with no spaces at the end.

The app isn't in my TV's store

App availability depends on your TV model, its age and your region. Try an alternative app, or plug in an Amazon Firestick, which is affordable and supports every major IPTV app. See our Firestick guide.

The picture buffers

Smart TVs often have weaker Wi-Fi chips than streaming sticks. Use an Ethernet cable if you can, and see our buffering fixes.

Frequently asked questions

Do Smart TV IPTV apps cost money?

Most Smart TV IPTV apps, including IBO Player and Smart IPTV, offer a free trial and then charge a small activation fee to the app developer. This is separate from your IPTV subscription.

Is my Samsung or LG TV too old for IPTV?

Most Samsung and LG Smart TVs from the last several years support IPTV apps. If your TV’s store doesn’t list one, an Amazon Firestick is an affordable way to add IPTV to any TV with an HDMI port.

Is a Firestick better than a Smart TV app?

A Firestick 4K usually offers a faster interface, better Wi-Fi and more app choice, including TiviMate. A built-in Smart TV app avoids an extra device and remote. Both work well with our service.
