Wexford GAA Co. Chairman, Derek Kent officially launched the AIRCONMECH Club School Initiative LAUNCH in the clubhouse on Thurs. 14th August

Guest speakers on the night were Con Hourihane (Principal, St. Joseph's, Kilmuckridge); Brendan Roaches (Principal, Court National School, Monamolin); Willie Cleary (Hurling Player Development Administrator, Wexford GAA, Johnny Dempsey, AIRCONMECH (sponsor of the initiative); Derek Kent, Co. Chairman with David Hughes, Club Chairman, MC for the event.

Both Principals embraced this latest club initiative which aims to promote and enhance the skills and development of our young boys and girls, working in tandem with the two local primary schools. Our two feeder schools are very supportive in strengthening the link between club and school as we look to the future together.  Fourteen volunteers from the club will receive training in the coming days to prepare them to pass on their techniques and skills to our underage players when they visit the schools on a weekly basis.

Johnny Dempsey, speaking on behalf of AIRCONMECH said he was delighted to be approached by Mick Farrell, Co-Ordinator of the Club School Link, to get involved in this exciting project and is looking forward to seeing the rewards in the coming years.

Willie Cleary, representing the Coaching Section of Wexford GAA was accompanied by Anthony Masterson, who was recently appointed as a football administrator has been involved in Hurling 365 for a number of years and outlined the advantages of teaching children the correct drills from a young age.  He played a big emphasis on the importance of young players practicing their skills every day.

Áine O’Meara, Club Treasurer commented afterwards that "as a club we are delighted to have so many strong businesses within our club base and on this occasion Johnny Dempsey and AIRCONMECH are the ones who have generously stepped forward. This is such an important initiative for the future of our club and we wanted to ensure it was adequately funded, through AIRCONMECH's generous sponsorship that is no longer a concern. We are extremely grateful to Johnny Dempsey and all at AIRCONMECH and indeed to all our sponsors who give so generously to our club".

Club Chairman, David Hughes, praised the volunteerism that exists in our club and this latest initiative is just one of the many good projects that our players and members have got involved with.  He wished both schools, their teachers and club volunteers every success as they embark on a new coaching journey in the coming weeks.

The club volunteers will visit the schools for two blocks during the coming school year with the Wexford GAA coaches involved for the other two blocks. All coaches will receive training using the specialist equipment needed to carry out their work.  Activities to be based around fun - fundamental movements, fun games, etc. with hurling and football as well.

The packed audience thoroughly enjoyed the night and looking forward to reaping the rewards in the years ahead.
